Sun hemp Jan to March 2016

Based on advise from Uncle and horticulture scientists, preparing the soil before cultivation is an important step. Before we are ready to move forward with planting, to improve the nitrogen in the soil, we were asked to plant Sun Hemp.

I was relearning basic botany from 8th Standard Science book:
  • plants need N, P and K - Nitrogen (main component for plants vegetative growth), Phosphorus (Phosphorus is critical in root development, crop maturity and seed production)  and Potassium (important for a plant's ability to withstand extreme cold and hot temperatures, drought and pests)
  • Nitrogen is considered to be the most important nutrient, and plants absorb more nitrogen than any other element. Nitrogen is responsible for yield and quality
Natural manures like Sun Hemp stores nitrogen in their root nodules that becomes beneficial for the next vegetation in that soil. Here is our experience of growing sun hemp and ploughing it into the soil after few weeks.
